Otters is an independent webseries, co-created by and costarring Kayla Martine and Chelsea Faber. Written by a team divided by state lines, the show explores the feelings and experiences that come with embarking into the adult world. And many of those feelings are so so awkward.
Life as a Canvas is Kayla's second short film. It's also poisonpetal's first funded project, thanks to our successful Kickstarter campaign. Life as a Canvas was co-directed by Kayla Martine and Amy Wooler. Josh Weis served as cinematographer. Becca Smith and Christ Bennett joined the team as Production Designer and Music Supervisor, respectively. The cast will included Kayla, Rocky Paterra, Chelsea Faber, Ken Bolden, George Aivaliotis, and Shane Jordan, who also served as fight choreographer. There was also a guest appearance by a real live snake.
Life as a Canvas was featured in the NewFilmmakers New York 2015 Summer Series, the 2015 Chain NYC Film Festival, and the 2015 Lancaster International Short Film Festival.
Insomnia was the first poisonpetal short. The film was written and directed by Kayla Martine, who shared the screen with the incredible Rocky Paterra. Josh Weis headed the production team as both cinematographer and editor, and the film featured original compositions by Michael Martine.
Overcoming our $4 budget and Kayla's sudden Lyme Disease, we comfortably shot this entire 15 minute film in a total of 8 hours. Insomnia was featured by both NewFilmmakers NY and the 2014 Viewster Online Film Festival.
